If you've been around for a while you may know that I originally was @SophiaInStitches on social media and sold my designs as SophiaInStitchesCo on Etsy. Of course, this was a punny way for me to show my love of needlepoint and comedy. I've always loved wordplay and to make people laugh, so it was fitting when the account was just for me. When I decided to get serious about selling my designs it just didn't fit anymore. As much as I love fun designs, the mission of this business isn't lighthearted, and it isn't about me.
Before I could decide on the new name I had to solidify exactly what I wanted this brand to be and what the end goal is. Ultimately, I decided that a combination needlepoint/craft shop and bookstore that was focused on creating community and giving back is the ultimate dream. So that gave me the keywords needlepoint, books, and community. I am unapologetic in the fact that I was on thesaurus.com for hours trying to find something that tied them all together. Ironically, it didn't come to me until I was looking at finishers for a belt.
I know, where's the irony in that? Well, the irony is that I was specifically looking for a finisher that does turn rows instead of the binding stitch. I admittedly am not the binding stitch's biggest fan and wanted to avoid doing an entire belt's worth of it. However, it was the perfect semi-punny name for the business. Don't worry, I did check thesaurus.com and dictionary.com. Books have a binding (that is often stitched), the binding stitch in needlepoint, and a community that is bound together.
(You may also be wondering why .co instead of .com. That is pretty simple to answer. .com is owned and I couldn't get ahold of the owner. I'd like to eventually get it though, so if you own thebindingstitch.com please email me.)
